Review on Sigma 50mm F1.4 Art DG HSM Lens πŸ“Έ for Canon - High-performance and Versatile Lens for Canon Cameras by Hotaru Kai ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I like everything, the price and the quality are both ok.

I really liked the Sigma AF 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Canon EF with its picture, it's an amazing lens, there is no backlash, nothing that happens even in Canon's "L" series. The only trouble is the build quality of individual copies, a real panacea. I bought my copy in Hong Kong. Firstly, because it is much cheaper there than in St. Petersburg, 6-7 thousand. I liked everything, from the box to the lens. Since I was not very experienced, I did not notice the defect immediately (back - front - focus). Used it on a crop, 77D. I will say that this is not the best combination, because I had to get closer to get a close-up portrait, because on the crop this focal length turns into 80 mm. It behaved extremely badly in dark street lighting conditions. 99% of all photos are marriage, they almost never came into focus, in fact, after which I decided to give it to the service center. I have a docking station for alignment, but I still didn’t manage to align it, the focus now and then still gave out either back or front focus, and not systematically, that is, sometimes up to 7 cm smeared at short distances up to 0.7 m , this is the English Channel ! And at long distances, I generally keep quiet. Since the period of 2 weeks has not passed since the purchase, until it was too late to carry it to the service center of the store. There he was accepted, within 10 days according to the law, everything was as it should be, they gave an answer from the service center in Hong Kong, yes, indeed the lens is not working. Since I was delighted with the picture, I decided not to change it to another Canon, etc. although there were thoughts to get to the 35 mm L series. While it is being repaired, I managed to change the carcass from 77D to 6D Mark 2, now I'm waiting until they bring it back to test it in full frame. Of course, to say that I'm upset is not enough, but the beauty of the picture, color, saturation struck me. After the Canon 50 mm f/1.8, I discovered photography in a new light.

Pros
  • An amazing picture for artistic shooting, very good sharpness for both female and male portraits, aperture ratio, color reproduction, the most convenient focal length for portraits, design, materials.
Cons
  • The quality of my copy.
