Review on πŸ”Œ Cable Matters Thunderbolt 3 10G Ethernet Adapter: Certified with NBASE-T Support | Not for USB-C Ports Without Thunderbolt Logo by Jordan Jackson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Sturdy little device

Good quality and strong enough. Too bad I can't test it to the limit as I don't have another computer with 10G for iperf. However, I was able to achieve 3Gb/s transfer speeds when transferring files over 4 1Gb/s connections to Synology. Warning, this little thing gets pretty hot even when not under load. Another issue I'm still trying to figure out, whether it's a driver or my network setup, is that new sessions, be it a website or SMB, take a bit of time if they're "like them are" are used. For example, when you load a page, it takes about 5 seconds to load. Then it would be ok for a while until the device stops and then repeats. If you try to run a speed test on speedtest.net or in the DSL report when run "as is" will there be problems with the download speed test and get an error message saying some ports are blocked? However, if you use load balancing software like "Turbo LAN", all these problems go away. I give it 4 stars for build quality and it lives up to the ad. 1 star removed due to issues I'm having, but I'm not sure if it's a device driver or something.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • It pisses me off
