Review on πŸ’» DIYmall USBASP Programmer: Enhanced AVR Downtloader & Flash Tool for Arduino Ender 3 Pro 5V/3.3V with Jumper Cap by Jarrett Francis

Done works on my MacBook Pro (Big Sur)

Maybe this is my new programmer. I have a USBTiny for ATtiny chip programming which allows me to plug the chip into a socket and program it, but for all other chips this works fine. I usually use an Arduino Uno with "Arduino as ISP". This works well but requires a lot of wiring. If you're using a microcontroller with Arduino IDE and on-chip bootloader, you don't need this programmer. The Arduino IDE defaults to using the serial port and bootloader when you press the upload button. If you use AVRDUDE or the Arduino IDE for microcontrollers without a bootloader, this programmer is simple and inexpensive. With this programmer you can upload the bootloader to the microcontroller as well as upload sketches / firmware. I plugged it in and the device was immediately recognized by my operating system (Big Sur). See picture 1. It doesn't show any details but recognizes the device as USBasp. The Arduino IDE does not show this device as a port. Instead, select the "Tools" menu and then "Select Programmer". Select USBasp from the drop down list (see second image). Now you can either burn the bootloader or program the microcontroller. In order to burn the bootloader you need to select the correct board/microcontroller and all relevant settings for your device and then select 'Burn Bootloader' from the Tools menu. Do not use the "Download" button as usual to program the device/microcontroller. want. This will give you an error. Instead, make sure the USBasp programmer is selected and choose "Download with Programmer" from the Sketch menu. This uses the USBasp connected to the computer. To ensure the versatility of this device, I recommend ordering the version with a 10-pin to 6-pin adapter. I ordered two sets and tested both. They both worked. All of my testing was done with a simple sketch of a blinking LED plus the Marlin 3D printer firmware written to an ATMEGA1284P PU on a breadboard. I highly recommend this device.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
