Review on πŸ”’ Enhanced GEARWRENCH 145" Automatic Locking Ratcheting Hose Pinch Off Pliers by Sean Burnett

Revainrating 1 out of 5

good tool. - Pliers

I ordered a 145 open end wrench and a Cal Van 16000. Both are very similar but have some differences. Gear Wrench also immediately looks more expensive. Not better, just more expensive. It has a rubber grip, is all black, etc. The gear wrench also opens by itself, but the Cal Van doesn't. You have to open it manually. Advantage of a gear wrench. The gear wrench makes more noise. The details at the end are parentheses, they are weaker. The Cal Van hardly rattles and appears to have tighter tolerances. Cal Van Advantage. The gear key opens a little further. Very little. I'm calling it a tie because it's not important enough to give him much capacity. Eventually both wrenches will require you to switch to a larger wrench for larger hoses. Finally, the gear wrench is made in Taiwan. The Cal Van is assembled in the USA using parts from around the world. That's the advantage of Cal Van for me. Between the two, it all boils down to self-discovery rather than being assembled in the US. The opening itself may eventually wear out or break, I don't know. Both look well made and should last a long time - I hope. I don't think you can go wrong with any tool. The gear wrench advertises a lifetime warranty, but with all the warranties, are you really wasting time getting another one? Have you kept your receipt? etc. Most of us will just buy another key. That being said, none of them have 100% stopped the flow from the 5/8 inch tubing after using them. I ended up with a butt.

Pros
  • Very good price
