Review on Ade Advanced Optics Compensation Refractometer: Precise Measurements for Accurate Compensation by Brian Rivenbark

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Amazing tool useful in machine shops

Our machine shop recently purchased two CNC machines - our first ever - and we are in the process of setting up tools and learning how to do it Care and maintenance of the machines . The owner gave me money to purchase this refractometer through my Revain Prime account as it was cheaper than buying it from a local vendor. After deciding on a shipping day, the product arrived quickly and I was very excited to try it. The display in the range is crystal clear and the line that indicates the Brix levels to be measured is very clear and easy to read. You don't need a lot of light to read, which is great because in our store it's pretty dark in the area where the machines are running. I tested the refractometer with bottled drinking water and zeroed the line. I made a 10% sucrose solution using a kitchen scale: 90g water, 10g sugar. The refractometer read about 10.8 degrees Brix, so that seems like a very tight tolerance, definitely good enough to determine the coolant to oil ratio. Basically a very good device. Maybe I'll buy one just because it's so cool. To be able to measure with reasonable accuracy the speed of light passing through a liquid with a $30 device that you can hold in your hand and that even a child can operate? It's pretty cool.

Pros
  • Complete with case, calibration screwdriver and plastic dropper
Cons
  • So far so good
