I bought this for my 2010 Toyota Highlander with the tow package. I made the mistake of trusting the etrailer.com website which said I only needed a 4 wire SUV rear adapter to connect to the trailer lights as I had a factory towing package. I have the original sticker for my car stating it has a tow kit which apparently just means it has a transmission cooler but no converter or flat 4 wire trailer light connector. I did some research and checked the transmission cooler. I installed it by looking at the front air flap through the little lovers from the driver's side and seeing the radiator itself, check it out. I then opened the tailgate and removed the two rear floor panels and the rear driver's side corner panel, revealing a black plastic pan held in place by two thumbscrews. Remove the screws and you'll find a small rectangular white connector that the pig's tail fits into to access the trailer lights. I cut a slit in the 2" rubber bushing and thread the pigtail through it to the rear hitch. I drilled some small holes in the plastic under the rear bumper and used zip ties to secure the wiring. Minutes to complete the task above , just buying a CURT 56042 T-connector, I arrived at the U-Haul dealership a few days later on a Friday night to pick up the trailer we were using for our 2000 mile cruise, taillights and they weren't working .Then I opened up the manual to check the location of the fuse box and found the 30Amp tow fuse was not installed and I was like "SPIRIT" so I installed a spare and the light works still not.I took the trailer home to solve the problem and that's when I realized I was missing a converter. The first tip to check and make sure Pre-wiring your Toyota for towing consists of checking that the fuse in the under-hood fuse box on the driver's side is set for towing. xt check if the converter is installed, which is located under the dashboard on the driver's side. You should see a large white rectangular fork. If nothing is connected to it, then you are missing a converter. It's $125 from Toyota and they don't keep it in stock. I had to be out by Saturday to make our trip but Revain was my quickest option and was able to charge me 1/4 the cost. Sunday. I wanted to take the time to share my experience, especially if your Toyota has a towing package.
