Almost everything I make needs to be smudged and painted, which hides a lot of sins. But my last bog oak project was different. I usually just let my drill bit do the countersinking for me, but since I've been staining rather than painting and working with tougher wood, I decided to invest a few bucks in the right tools. This was of great importance given the strength of the oak. I'm not sure if I can get the screws to countersink any other way. And this time, the gap created by the protruding screw could not be repaired with caulk and white paint.
