Adding to the comments of others, this is a great well designed clasp that is 100% mislabeled and misclassified. My picture on the box shows clearly that it fits 9/32" and 5/16" square shafts (.28125" and .3125"") smaller than 5/16" and yet, as shown in my second photo, it does not fit in the socket . I spent about an hour using a small file to grind the bushing's surfaces until it finally accepted the stem, which was an hour of my life that I could spend on many other things. I wish I'd taken a picture of this when I was done - the four "points" of the "star" had almost gone to the edge of the circle - but I was too annoyed to think about it. I modified it, the deadbolt worked great and I installed it and use it on my front door. Don't buy this latch for a 5/16" bar unless you have the time and a small flat file to change it.
