Doesn't actually work at all

I have had an instant read thermometer for many years. It finally came out so I researched and bought it. It turns on automatically when opened. This is a good feature. The screen is large so you can easily see the numbers. Here's the problem: Instant reading is a stretch. When I stick the thermometer into the meat, it jumps from 200 to 80 degrees. It takes a few minutes to install, but the best I can get is a 10 degree range. If I want to take a steak off the grill at 135 degrees, I can't know because this thermometer jumps between 140 and 130 and never stops at a number. I don't know when to put my steak away. If I had waited for it to settle on a number, it would have taken a full minute and my hand would have melted by then. For the price, this is a terrible tool. The $15 instant read I've used for years worked just fine. At more than double the price, I think I had much higher expectations. I will continue my search.

Pros
  • Waterproof up to IP65: After use, rinse the kitchen thermometer quickly under running water without hesitation; The non-slip handle and sturdy body will prevent and survive any accidents in the kitchen
Cons
  • Large and bulky
