For the money, the EAP1250 is a great AP. Almost a 5 star AP, I give it 4 stars due to some minor issues. Setup instructions are minimal, firmware updates are done manually. Overall I am very happy with his work and would buy him again. A few tips/suggestions for customization. 1) Use the built-in web interface. While this can be done by plugging the EAP1250 directly into the PC's Ethernet port, my PCs are Ultrabooks and don't have an Ethernet adapter (I too would prefer to just plug into my router and be done with it). First connect the access point to the router. After connecting the access point to the router, go into the router's configuration menu and find the local IP address assigned to the EAP1250 via DHCP. Under connected devices, this shows up as EAP1250 with the access point's MAC address. To avoid repeating this step, you can optionally reserve a local IP address for the access point in the router's LAN setup menu and restart the router. I set my router's local IP address to 10.0.0.2. So when I want to bring up the EAP1250 setup menu, I just type 10.0.0.2 in the web browser. 2) The wireless access point is open by default (no password). So change your wireless network security settings to WPA2/PSK AES. Note that saving changes does not commit them. After saving all changes, navigate to the "Changes" button at the top of the screen to apply them. Otherwise the changes will be lost. 3) My internet is set to 250 up / 250 down. With the AP's default settings, speed tests would show around 140Mbps up and down in the 5GHz band. I changed the channel HT mode to 80MHz, now the speed tests get about 270Mbps up and down. 4) It wasn't clear to me, but the reset button allows you to reset your device. The Wi-Fi scheduler has an automatic restart setting. I have my hotspot set to restart once a week. My biggest complaint is the firmware update process. This is done entirely by hand. You must find the firmware update (if available) and then download the file before it can be installed.
