Well this definitely was a no frills packaging delivery. The tool came in a plastic zip-lock inside a brown cardboard box, no lettering whatsoever. No instruction manual or the ubiquitous safety warnings, not even any lettering on the tool. But who cares about all that anyway. This is your proverbial third hand. Being primarily alone in the shop, clamping and jigs abound, so this is going to speed up things dramatically. It a simple device to understand. First install your cup hinge into the door, clamp the device onto the bottom of your cabinet, place the door on the steady, raise or drop the steady rest to the level you need and mark the screw positions with the other. Predrill the holes, with one hand reposition the door and with the other, screw the hinge to the stile. Couldn't be simpler! The steady rest spans to the left and to the right of the clamping screw so you can do left and right hinged doors. I installed a left and right combination onto a cabinet in a mere 4 minutes. Just remember to not change the steady rest location relative to the clamp face to keep the doors at the same position across the cabinet. At the base of the steady rest adjustment screw there are two retainer set screws which are used to retain the head of the screw. I discovered that with a 2.5mm hex allen wrench you can tigthen down on those and lock the steady screw from losing it's position. You do have to release them when you need to adjust the steady up or down. I'm not sure if that was the intent but it works to lock the steady rest's position door to door.As far as material, machining and finish, it is two thick, solid piece of anodized aluminum, there's no flex when clamped on to your frame. The steady rest adjustment screw has a fine thread so you can dial in the position very finely. A slight deflection (about 1.25mm) of the steady rest, as it slides in the dual tracks, can be taken out of play when you are setting the steady rest's position with the door's weight. If your cabinet has a face frame, the rails need to be less than 2 3/16" wide to allow the clamp to attach. All the surfaces contacting your cabinet material are rubber padded to prevent marring the finish.I've jigged up similar setups with sticks of wood and clamps, so this one piece device is going to come in very handy. I don't know if you'd consider this a knock off, as I don't recall ever seeing the tool elsewhere. A very helpful and innovative tool, it is a little pricy but affordable. Although I'd have given 4 stars due to price, because I'm cheap, absolutely no quality and usage issues for me, so a deserved 5 stars.
