Review on πŸš— Dorman 695-179 Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: A High-Performance Upgrade for Dodge / Jeep Models by Austin Arvayo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Installation and operation are easy, but diagnosing is the hard part.

This part fixed my rear ABS warning light on a 2007 Jeep JK Wrangler. Parts Storage Fees. If you're a do-it-yourselfer, you can install the part faster than going to the professional would be. The tricky part of this type of repair is diagnostics: knowing that the problem is with a faulty wheel speed sensor and which wheel is faulty. The OBD scan code U1417 only showed an implausible left side speed and did not isolate a problem with the front/rear or even with the wheel speed sensor. As if the computer is goading you into taking the car for an expensive job, there's enough information to startle you, but not to diagnose it. You can get OBD codes "for free" on a Jeep by pressing the ignition key three times or by plugging in an OBD reader like the ELM327. But when it comes to ABS problems, OBD codes are not informative. I solved this problem only with ELM327 and an application called AlfaOBD that even in the free version reads the codes and sensors of the ABS modules. The application displayed speed sensor signals while driving and indicated which wheel was broken. Another app called OBD Jscan can also read sensors in the paid version. Dorman supplies decent quality replacement parts. This Dorman item is made in China, but that's about it these days.
