Review on EWK Timing Adjuster Tensioner Holding by Robert Arneson

Success on a 2003 Jetta 1.8T AWP engine

This part number was used on a 2003 awp 1.8T engine. Works as it should. Be 100% sure when using this device that the plastic lugs are supported by the hard plastic that the chain rides on. This may require a slight movement of the chain. It's a very snug fit, but it moves enough for those ears to rest on the hard plastic. If you use this device without this step, it will break due to too large a pressure angle. Also lubricate the threads before starting. Turn around slowly. The chain will come loose sooner or later. I just changed the tensioner seals. Initially the chain didn't let through enough and the plastic started to sag a bit. Then I unscrewed the screw on the device and started again so as not to break the plastic. The second time around the chain had more slack and this allowed me to raise the tensioner assembly a half inch to run the spacer and moon spacer in and out. Take your time. This device works as advertised. Don't overtighten. At the first sign that the screw is being overtightened or the plastic is being bent, stop and check again. Much luck.
