I recently bought this router because of its great features and price. The hardware in this device is of the highest quality, but the firmware is limited and contains bugs. I don't think user error contributes to the basic error I'm seeing: When I connect my iPad or laptop on the 5G frequency (set to auto-handshake and using the "ac" protocol with connect these two devices), several hours and then slows down almost to the stop. Sometimes it happens the same day, but always the next day. This can be fixed by disconnecting/reconnecting without restarting the router. The predictable drop in performance over time is often due to memory leaks in the firmware code (C++ is fast but vulnerable), but there could be a number of other things as well. It's unlikely that this is a single device issue, but I'm not ruling it out. I will be contacting Phicomm support to see what this experience is like and see how they propose to fix this issue. There are other issues as well: no default route configuration, limited ddns options, no bridge mode option when connecting to other routers, only admin webpage for iOS "app" (that doesn't even fit on the screen). There will be more of them, this is a new toy. Ultimately the question will be: does Phicomm have good engineers and can they release firmware patches? None yet.
