Review on πŸ” Secure your Yakima Car Rack System Components with YAKIMA - SKS Lock Cores: Ultimate Theft Protection by Mike Sevenfourgd

Good for installing Yakima but they sent me the wrong keys

I bought two Yakima Highroads for my car's roof rack. These are great bike mounts and offer the option to add Yakima SKS locking bars to lock the back of the mount, as well as add a lock to the included security loop. These locks are great for basic theft protection as they're easy to pick and the security loop is easy to cut with the right tool, but for casual security like going to the grocery store or storing bikes in a semi-secure environment, they work. For the price per Yakima Highroad ($250), those locks should have come preinstalled, but I digress. As I bought two Highroads I bought a set of four so all locks can use the same key. The locks are easy to install but after installing them I tried to test them but found that the cores don't lock as the keys don't match the cores. Each bar is printed with a code and must be supplied with matching keys with the same code. The cores I received were A144 but the keys were A143. I'm about to return them and will probably buy them for now. Again, these kernels are a great idea and easy to install, but they should also be included by default on most Yakima systems.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Good but not great
