I found the installation very easy and had no problem replacing my existing lock kit. The instructions that come with it are very good. Using the genuine SmartKey, a new lock can be recoded in minutes to fit any other Kwikset/Baldwin lock set that uses the classic KW1 style Kwikset key. This is a huge benefit for people who want the same key to fit multiple front doors - no locksmith is required and you don't have to take the locks to the hardware store to have the same keys installed. Please note that Baldwin's very vintage keys and locks differ from those manufactured after Black and Decker purchased Baldwin in 2003. If you buy additional locks or deadbolts and want the key for that lock to match them, be sure to look for the "SmartKey" designation, which ensures it uses the same type of key and is compatible with that set of locks. The lever handle feels very solid and secure; It doesn't wobble like some lock sets I've tried. The finish is quite dark and very attractive - looks like it should wear well. I recommend this as a good choice for a new or replacement entry lock.
