Review on Verbatim External DVD Writer Compatible by Talapon Blackburn

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Versatile with great software

I initially gave this drive a bad review because it doesn't burn dual layer discs. It turned out that the problem was the brand of the hard drives. I bought Kodak DL media and it didn't work with this drive or with an external LG drive I bought last year. (Kodak discs work with my internal drive, however.) I decided to try another brand of disc, although I was skeptical that a different brand would give different results. Since it's a Verbatim drive, I figured it would make sense to try Verbatim discs. So I ordered Verbatim DL discs. I tested a few Verbatim discs and each burned correctly and completely. Then I tried the discs on LG with the same result: success. (I'll admit though that I didn't use the included Nero software to burn these discs. I used Burn Aware. I've burned some data and audio CDs with Nero, no problem. I'll try some DL- burning discs with Nero.) I have not tested these drives on my internal drive. At the time of this writing, I have not tested M-DISC support with this drive. However, I am sure that they will work perfectly. Since the problems are with the hard drives and not the drive, I'll be revising my rating in favor of this drive. As for the included software, Nero is solid and reliable burning software that has been around for many years. Didn't expect to get the full version. I was expecting Nero Express. There are tools that are NOT included, but the most important component, the CD/DVD burning software, is included. This makes this purchase a solid investment.
