Type of review

It didn't work right out of the box. I went to the Verbatim website, filled out the form, explained the problem and waited a few days. You contacted me via email. I explained the problem AGAIN and never got a reply. The thing is, all Revain external CD/DVD players/writers have bad reviews. Apparently they are all rubbish and none of them are reliable. What to do? I have a laptop with no DVD/CD drive and some old CDs I want to use. I'M DISAPPOINTED!

Weak support and incompatibility

Just bought a new Mac without a CD drive - Needed a TurboTax boot CD drive (which we've used for years) - Ordered an external Verbatim CD drive based on reviews and product descriptions. Error! Permanent error - not compatible with the latest Mac OS software. Called Verbatim Support at 1800. Almost impossible to understand the person on the other end (India) + totally useless help - he said to ignore the "incompatibility" error message and use it as is - never worked properly. I had to repeat…

Check the connection

This product received half as many 1s as 5s which is odd. I think I found the reason. I couldn't get mine to work at all until I played around with the USB port on the back; then worked part time. So I got out the supplied cable (I used an older one of the same type), sprayed the plug on the cable and the socket on the device with "electronics cleaner" and plugged it back in. Now it works great. So I have to think that the problems many people are having are related to the wired connection…

Excellent Portable Drive

Windows 10 didn't like any of my DVD drives so I took them out. Sometimes I needed a CD/DVD drive. This fits the bill. Yes, you must use two hands to control it and no deal breaker. Reads and writes CD/DVD material with ease. If, like me, you sometimes need an external drive, buy this drive. I bought it because of M-Media. I've been out of the loop for a while checking. 100 GB Longlife DVD. Haven't used this yet but it will be great for storing family photos. Thanks to the stability of Windows…

Windows may not recognize

We have several of these. The older version came with a detachable USB cable that plugs into two USB ports on your computer. This is for computers that are not providing enough power on one port. They seem to have switched to a single-plug USB cable in this release. I couldn't get Windows to recognize any of the three drives I just received. I assumed I would need a driver first but Verbatim claims no driver is needed and they don't have one on their website. Only after borrowing a cable with a

Impressively light and versatile

I love this machine. It is highly portable and supports a variety of formats from CD-RW to DVD-RW. All you have to do is plug it into a USB port and you're done. You don't need an external power source because USB does all the work, communication and power in a single cable. I'm a big audiophile and bought this to burn FLAC files to CD-A and enjoy the best sound quality a CD has to offer. The reason I give it 4 stars is that this drive cannot burn discs at 4x speed, which is the speed required…

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Reliability

Not only is this a great compact burner, it is the first drive I have bought in years to offer the high quality Performs disc scanning with Nero Discspeed. When burning a disc for archival purposes, it is important to scan it for errors and overall quality. My old drives that did this were showing their age and I was pleased to find that this does just that at a good price. Most other modern, small and affordable drives don't have this feature. I mainly use it with Windows 10, but it works well

Versatile with great software

I initially gave this drive a bad review because it doesn't burn dual layer discs. It turned out that the problem was the brand of the hard drives. I bought Kodak DL media and it didn't work with this drive or with an external LG drive I bought last year. (Kodak discs work with my internal drive, however.) I decided to try another brand of disc, although I was skeptical that a different brand would give different results. Since it's a Verbatim drive, I figured it would make sense to try…
