Review on Lockstraps 901 Helmet Lock Black by Brad Fleming

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The carbine is huge, heavy, but the build quality is good. Although the lock is cheap.

Carabiner is HUGE and very heavy as other reviews wrote. The strap itself is good and its length is suitable for attaching a helmet to the tail. On my 02V Strom it is long enough to attach the helmet to the rails when the helmet is sitting directly on the stern (under my luggage net). There are smooth rivets on the strap which should minimize the risk of scratching the tail if you wear this attaché while riding, but they can still scratch the paintwork so I'll be careful about leaving it on while riding. Back to the carabiner, as soon as I looked at this thing I realized I can't just put it on my bike as it would scratch anything it's resting on. It's thick, strong steel and about 6 inches long. The length is necessary for the construction but I would have preferred to see it with a simpler locking mechanism and made of aluminum to be lighter. I know it's less secure as the aluminum can be cut or broken, but it doesn't really need to be blocked by someone really determined, just drunks, hooligans, or random people walking around thinking it's funny to steal a helmet. Smaller and lighter would just be easier to handle, so use more often. The lock is pretty cheap, just a very basic 3 digit combination lock. I don't think the lock itself is that secure, especially compared to the tank of the rifle it's on. It seems a bit silly to have such a superfluous carabiner with a cheap lock that doesn't secure the carabiner that well. I could buy it again, but really only because of a good belt with a steel cable in it. I can cut the carabiner and use something else like another padlock or something.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Negative is present
