Review on 🌳 ARBORTECH Ball Gouge – 30mm Spherical Shaped Wood Gouge Power Carving Attachment for Angle Grinder – BAL.FG.2000 by Ethan Carpenter

MUCH safer than a chainsaw wheel, much easier to control, much tighter and deeper cuts.

I make wooden spoons semi-professionally and have previously used a chainsaw wheel to roughen up the shells. This is a very cool alternative. It's not ideal since it's a rotating blade, you need to be aware of the grain, and dry wood is much more difficult to cut than green wood (like any cutting tool). Compared to the chainsaw wheel, it is much safer. that I've given up chainsaw wheels except in very large, very open boats. You have much more control over this tool and the risk of kickback is much less. When it hits and exposes flesh, it cuts less than a chain (although I tremble to appreciate the damage either can do). The ingenuity of the cutting edge is also very smooth. Rotate the cutting ring for a new cutting edge. And then flip it over to get a brand new cutting edge. I moved the edge once under fairly heavy stress; The blade isn't hard metal, it's damn strong steel. The main thing I like about it is the ability to carve very deep and very sharp curves in the small bowls of my spoons. As I mentioned, you have to be careful to cut against the grain - I broke a few edges when I wasn't paying close attention, but if you cut along the grain it's a great tool, even on dried wood. .
