Plastic line breaks near hook

Make blanket with hook G and after about 6 inches the plastic line attached to the hook broke. I tried several ways to reattach the line to the hook but none of them worked. Started back on the afghan with an H hook. Only made about 3 inches before the plastic cord broke at the base of the hook. I threw away the remaining crochet hooks because they seemed unsuitable for knitting blankets.
