First something about me. On the weekends I work as a carpenter, mainly in crafts and art, as well as house renovations. For 40 years I was fed up with an electric drill and ordinary bits and sometimes a spring crown for larger diameter holes. Then I ventured into a DIY project where I wanted really smooth, precise holes (hence the purchase of a drill press, don't tell your wife). To make holes I bought a cheap set of Forstner bits. You saw them here on Amazon, seven bits for $12. What can go wrong? Well they worked way better than my old beats. Surprisingly better. But I've found that they fade after a few uses. So I treated myself to this piece of Freud. Oh God! It was as sharp as a hot knife piercing warm butter, and it pierced the sycamore. So smooth, so fast, it was amazing. For me there are no more common beats. I will spend money on Freud every time now. You're worth it. Do yourself a favor and try them out.
