Review on KREG KMA3200 Shelf Pin Drilling by Alex Prince

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Highly recommended, accurate, durable and just like all my other Kreg products.

What do I like? My shelves don't wobble; This Kreg mount is very accurate, even for long holes for my 8ft bookshelves. The shelf installed in the upper holes is as strong as the shelf installed in the lower holes. I have just completed a set of 6 built in bookcases for our living room. The hulls are 8 feet tall and 15 feet overall. There are over 1,500 shelf pin holes on the vertical sides, allowing for greater flexibility in shelf spacing. In order to improve production efficiency, I processed all the parts first, and then assembled and installed. I originally drilled the holes with a Bench Dog shelf drill, not this Kreg. The Bench Dog worked fine at first, but after I finished all the holes I found that the spacing was inaccurate because the spacer holes in the plastic Bench Dog jig lengthened as I drilled 1500 holes. It wasn't very noticeable on the mount, but it was enough to make the lower shelves shake. The problem with the Bench Dog design is that the drill bit rubs against the plastic holes with enough friction to melt the hole and allow it to expand. Note that the holes are not enlarged because of the flutes of the drill, but because of the friction of the holder. I was able to mount some shelves on pins to stop the wobbling but bought a Kreg jig to restore them. last section. That works great. I specifically chose Kreg because it has metal bushings in each pilot hole that make contact with the rotating drill bit and this keeps the Kreg mount accurate. It was only marginally more expensive than the Bench Dog, and the Kreg was the only offshore gear I could find with metal bushings. Everything else I found was plastic and generally more expensive than the Kreg. Highly recommended.
