Overall worth it, would buy again, minor QA concern with latch pull

This product was purchased in mid-2016 so more than 3 years experience with it.InstallationInstallation was easy enough by 1) ordering the correct part and 2) carefully following the instructions. It was installed by one person (me) with no issues that I recall, other than a little fiddling to get it lined up correctly. One very disappointing thing was a pretty clear quality control issue. Someone somewhere just did not care enough on the day mine was assembled. The somewhat flimsy and fragile feeling pull cable failed after the third use. It is very skimpy feeling, but does require a bit of a tug to disengage the latch. Mine also seemed to require quite a lengthy pull compared to the amount if distance the latch needs to travel. I tested it a few times after install, then went on a trip. At the destination (and without my shop full of tools) I reached up to release the cover and the wire pulled out. This meant I could not open the cover. After figuring out how to manually release it, the cable release mechanism was disassembled to find that the crimp job on the cable was really poor. It had been done such that it left way too much slack, and the cable was loose in the crimp. This would have been obvious at manufacturing or QA. I replaced the cheap crimp with a positive locking screw clamp and it has been working correctly for 3 years. At the time it was really quite disappointing, and caused a bunch of wasted time fixing a problem that BAK should not have allowed to leave the factory floor. Even with that, the product really has been good.Likes/DislikesLess wasted bed space compared to other solutions. With only a 6'6" bed, space is at a premium. The Revolver leaves most of the space available.Ease of use. Rolls up easily, and goes back in place easily most of the time. Just pay attention and ensure it latches into the side rails and the rear locks.Good looks. While subjective, for me it is among the better looking installs.Decent but not perfect water seal. Rain can get in, but it will mostly keep the bed dry. BAK makes this clear. For anything sensitive to water, just cover it thoroughly with a tarp (top and bottom, perhaps even elevated off the truck bed) before closing the cover. Traveled >600 miles in one of the worst storms I've experienced and nothing was damaged using this method. It worked better than expected and about as well as one can reasonably expect, so good enough for me.Nice that it can be unlatched and opened by one person from either side of the bed. There is one gripe besides the very irritating early failure of the latch pull. It would be very handy to have some way of partially opening the cover and securing it at any point along the bed. As shipped, its really all or none, either fully open or fully closed. Perhaps someone already has a solution.Would prefer a more positive feeling latch mechanism. The wire system works but is not very confidence inspiring for an expensive product.DurabilityIt is holding up okay. The cover has faded a bit. Likely it could be rejuvenated with some work. The logo at the rear driver side is peeling off.WishesAs mentioned, I need a solution to reduce the profile of the retracted cover for turning a fifth wheel RV. Thinking rather than rolling it, just pulling the front forward, then fabricating something that holds the upturned portion of the cover flat, perhaps using the stake pocket holes as anchors. Open to ideas. I suppose it could be removed temporarily, but am concerned that it wasn't designed to be taken on and off frequently.I'll probably purchase another if the current truck is replaced, unless something better comes along. Addressing the quality issue of the latching mechanism and partial open feature request would make this a near perfect (for me) product.

Pros
  • Provides peace of mind knowing your cargo is safe and secure
Cons
  • May not provide a tight enough fit for all cargo sizes
