Don't look in the flashlight with your left eye

That's - as you say - interesting. Life is full of compromises. This little creature is a classic example. You can't get a device that does "everything" very well. LED flashlights have become a quantum leap over the old incandescent bulbs. Lightbulbs won their race. The intensity has reached its limit. LEDs have changed the rules of the game. They immediately surpassed the intensity of incandescent bulbs - and as LEDs, their lifespan increased by about six times. It's a plateau for a while. only so much light could be obtained from a white LED - until relatively recently. Then, as LED bulbs fell back into the compromise trap that incandescent bulbs went through. There are no free lunches. Light emitted = means more power is required from the batteries to produce it. This particular device is powered by two AA batteries that don't really have that much energy density. However, for this voltage (just over 3.2 VD) they can produce an amazing amount of light (332 lumens). A bulb of the same voltage could provide 14. Other less aggressive LEDs might deliver 30 or 40. Giving 10x more lumens means they draw 10x more current, resulting in shorter battery life. My other AA LED lights can last quite a while. They also have a high and low power setting + ripple + SOS. battery life while still delivering an incredible amount of light. It's - still - a bit pricey for what it does. That being said, your only problem is not pointing it directly at someone when you turn it on. with a painful amount of light.
