Review on Tulip TP1166 Etimo Crochet Hook Set: Your Ultimate Crocheting Companion by Jennifer Roberts

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My favorite hooks so far

I've included photos of Tulip Etimo (1st from left), Boye-style ergonomic (2nd), Clover Soft Touch (3rd) and Bates Luxite (4th). I also have a Prym Ergonomic for Wool set but I have not included it in this review. But they quickly become too attracted to cotton, although I like everything else about them, including the length and feel. stupid heads. However, they make it easy to maintain tension (I tend to be tight) and slip through many buttonhole stitches. When using Boye style hooks I definitely have to tighten the loops to get my head through. I think both clover and tulip are somewhere in between the two styles, although both are different from each other. The Tulip has a thicker neck that sits higher in the stem than the Boye or Clover species. The hook is the smallest of the four, slightly smaller than a shamrock (which means there's a learning curve, although it only took me a few rows to get the hang of it). Outwardly, what Bates likes most is the straight-line style, where the hook barely protrudes from the line. It's narrower at the back than Bates and Clover, making it easier to sew tight stitches. He also has a slightly sharper head than Clover and Boye, but not too sharp. The Bates plastic means the yarn doesn't slide down the bar as easily, although that doesn't bother me as long as I keep my hands on. The Bates-style hook's shiny aluminum means the hook is very smooth, which could mean I'm more likely to fruitlessly and annoyingly bounce off them rather than get into tight stitches. The clover and tulip texture strikes the perfect middle ground - smooth but not slippery thanks to brushed, brushed aluminum finish. I prefer the tulip to the shamrock for several reasons: 1. The head of the tulip is tapered and slightly pointed2. The handle is about 1/2 inch longer. My absolute favorite for wool or acrylic is the Prym Ergonomic. If they made one that worked on cotton I would use it! But because they don't, Tulip wins for its versatility. Love!
