Received this infrared thermometer this week and have used it to determine when my salt block is hot enough. Despite my general incompetence with mechanics, I was able to figure out how to open the thermometer's handle to remove the 9 volt battery in the plastic case, remove the packaging, and insert the battery. Once this was done, the thermometer worked like clockwork. Luckily I wasn't stupid enough to look into the laser beam or point it at the guests. Since I've only recently bought it, I can't yet estimate how long this thermometer will last. I think it will last a lot longer if I don't get carried away pointing them at different objects just for fun. By the way, you can't get accurate readings through glass.
