After much research I finally bought my first black Octave ABS filament for my Afinia 3D printer and MakerBot Replicator 2X. At the time when I was using another brand of premium filament, I needed something economical and stable for my work (3D architectural buildings, models and prototypes) without the filament clogging. The prints were attractive enough, and the quality of this thread rivals premium brands, I can hardly tell which model was which (it's almost like comparing 720p to 1080p on a 32-inch TV). That being said, the filament is reliable if you know what you're doing in terms of printer configuration, settings, temperature, etc. The first thing I did was download the spool holder and rod and nipple system (fiber dust filter) from the Web Octave website. (also available on thingiverse.com), especially if you're only going to leave your filament outdoors for long periods of time. Remember that dust doesn't melt once it gets into the heater block, it stays in your nozzle and with clogs your printout is jammed. After a few test prints on the Afinia, the filament was perfect at 236Β°C (using Octave's Temp. Switch). I've never had problems with warp and layer separation on models with my setup. I prefer to use borosilicate glass for my platform and apply two coats/coats of Elmer's washable glue (purple glue). I would suggest heating the jar for at least 45-60 minutes or until the platform reaches 95C. Apply three coats of Elmer's Washable Adhesive. Minutes before starting to print the first layer for better adhesion of the filament to the glass. I would especially recommend this thread if you're like me, a designer/prototyper or even a hobbyist on a budget. I will most likely buy a different color. Just a friendly reminder to keep your 3D printer at room temperature and away from open windows. The rush of winnings can cause your print to lift off the platform.
