For drilling 2" pine is great as other reviewers say, but I got it for drilling 12" deep holes in maple stump. I've used a shovel before, but it dulled quickly on maple and wouldn't pull chips out of a deep hole. I tried this drill with a heavy duty 7 amp Porter corded hammer drill on a 0-1100 RPM gearbox, but the threaded tip pulled the drill back so quickly the motor stalled. This bit has MAX RPM 600 printed on it so it's supposed to spin slowly, but it requires a very high torque, low RPM drill bit to work in my application. To reduce the feed force generated by the aggressive end screw, I ground about half the thread depth along the entire length of the screw. I then had to lean on it to feed a drill bit, much like a spade bit but with much faster cutting and chip removal and the motor wouldn't stall.
