Review on Rugged Ridge 11826 01 Replacement Handle by Bryan Fisher

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Bad design. Cheap junk.

Bought these for my 1999 Jeep Wrangler which Revane assured me would fit but they do not. not really anyway. I bought the same ones from Quadratec a few years ago and had no trouble installing them. But they eventually wore out so I thought they were the same. After removing my old torn ones, I spent about 20 minutes trying to install them. only on one side. Couldn't figure out why they didn't "hook" to the back of the door panel like the old ones. Not to mention the hardware they came with didn't have the same threads as my factory hardware so couldn't use it. In the end I decided to remove the entire panel and upon further inspection I found that the metal sleeve on it is MUCH small enough to slide over a small plastic ledge that other buttons fit perfectly on. So what happens when the hub hole is too small is that the grip has nothing to hold on to and is free to float, getting all its support (if installed) from the bolt alone. And as heavy as the factory all-steel doors are, that's very poor design. The older ones I had before solved this with a bigger/thicker bushing, so shared the tension difference between the thick plastic tab (which the screws go through) and the screw. I tried to widen the hole in the metal sleeve but unfortunately it is very thin and broke into 3 pieces. So one handle is now useless and I was only able to mount one on the passenger side, which I was very reluctant to do. This was very annoying and a waste of time. Maybe the little grommets will fit the plastic tab of a Wrangler from another year, but I doubt it. I'm only giving 2 stars because one seemed to work and I got a decent plastic tool out of it.

Pros
  • Body and Fairing
Cons
