Review on πŸ”’ Kwikset 99070-101 Powerbolt 2 Electronic Keyless Entry Deadbolt with Single Cylinder and SmartKey Security in Satin Nickel by Vladimir Castillo

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works great but uses batteries.

Works great and the smart key feature means I can recode the lock myself to easily match the deadbolt it replaces in 2 minutes. It is indeed a very intelligent system. As long as the replacement lock uses a kwikset key, recoding that lock to match your old key should be an easy task. Installation is easy if you've ever installed a latch. It's easy to program and works well. It locks automatically at intervals you can program (or disable). I set it to 50s in case I accidentally leave it unlocked. It can also store guest access codes and has a time delay if a potential attacker tries to enter too many wrong codes. I have two problems: First, it's the battery life. This thing drains batteries surprisingly fast. And when the battery runs out, it's better to have the keys with you! As long as the batteries are fresh, this lock is very responsive and unlocks quickly. Second, the numbers are printed on the outside of the opaque plastic buttons, not on the back of the clear buttons. This means that the pressure on the keys will fade as the keys wear through use, which is both unsightly and a security hole as it can help an attacker learn your passcode. Our buttons haven't worn out in the two months we've been using them. I recommend.
