In the past, bits were used that had notches on the cutting surface.
CMT manufactures high-quality cutters. However, this set was supposed to be new and when it arrived it had clearly been used. There were nicks and tool marks on the cutting face and shanks of the two large chisels. I sent them back as they were not new as advertised.
