Type of review

CMT manufactures high-quality cutters. However, this set was supposed to be new and when it arrived it had clearly been used. There were nicks and tool marks on the cutting face and shanks of the two large chisels. I sent them back as they were not new as advertised.

Pros
  • For precise joining of plywood seams
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Good quality and price

This bit set was just what I needed. I made several sets of bookcases out of birch plywood and was having trouble connecting the slots to the slots on my table saw. These bits ensured the grooves fitted perfectly every time, with no messing around with fenders and spacers, and no breakage. Great time saver.

Pros
  • CMT bits were the best compared to other brands (Wood magazine test)
Cons
  • Non automatic

Ideal for Baltic Birch

I bought this set because I'm starting to work a lot with Baltic Birch, both for its looks and for that that it's slightly higher quality plywood than a hollow-filled home center. I just cut the joinery for a couple of drawers and the 15/64" bit worked absolutely fine. 15/64 inches equals 6 millimeters, which is exactly half the thickness of the so-called Baltic birch 1/2 inch. In fact, it is 12mm thick. Not only are the bits just the right thickness I need, they're really sharp and cut nicely.

Pros
  • 3 straight knives with the following cutting diameters: 15/64, 31/64 and 21/32 inch
Cons
  • Long delivery time
