If you are worried about this work, please buy genuine parts.

I have a 2001 Suburban 1500 with 217,000 miles on the original engine and transmission. Both still work great and I want them to stay that way for as long as possible. About 80,000 miles ago I went to a "quick lube" shop to change a transmission fluid and gave them a container of Renew to add to the new fluid. They do this job like an oil change. You don't remove the pan and don't change the internal transfilter. During that time there weren't any problems so everything seemed to be working fine, but at the time I never realized how much of your old transmission oil was left in the sump (I have a "deep sump") when you do all of this what you do Tighten the drain plug and let the liquid flow out of this hole until it stops. The inside of the drain fitting protrudes slightly above the bottom of the sump, so even if there is no more liquid flowing out of the drain plug hole, at least a liter of liquid will collect at the bottom of the sump, along with all the rest of the dirt that has years of gearing through gears and filters and has settled on the ground. I was REALLY glad I finally got down to this stuff, removed EVERYTHING, cleaned the sump well and replaced the filter. This job is pretty tricky, messy, and the last thing you want to deal with once you've successfully removed the oil pan and pulled the old filter/gasket out of the transmission case is some sort of mismatched replacement filter/gasket and oil pan gasket. This AC Delco seal/filter/seal combination is MADE for your transmission and THIS specific job. If you do this work. just get it. Mine was sealed in a piece of cardboard with a GM number/tag, all parts in excellent condition. The filter gasket matched its fit perfectly, the filter matched the old OE perfectly that I had removed and it also easily slipped into its new gasket with a reassuring fit. The seal also matched the pallet perfectly. I didn't even have to do any stupid tricks to align the screw holes. Imagine. While removing/cleaning the pot was quite a tedious and messy task, this kit made it easy to put everything back together. Getting to the reassembly step, I happily tightened all the bolts and filled the gearbox with fresh fluid within minutes. Highly recommended.
