Review on Klein Tools IR07 Infrared Thermometer by Chucky Hepler

However, quality is an issue.

I bought this instrument along with other brands based on my long experience with small instruments. The transition to high-end electronics seems to be a challenge for Klein. The device worked as needed for the first month or so, and then the display started showing random negative numbers each time the temperature sensor was inserted. Although there was no indication of a weak battery, I assumed the manufacturer had stated that the Chinese batteries had failed. After replacing the battery, the device resumed normal operation within a day or so and the display went back to showing negative numbers when the probe was inserted. Klein's customer service experience was relatively painless, but without feedback. After weeks of no response, I emailed them to inquire. The quick response said my device would be shipped the next day. It wasn't, but arrived within a week. In general, the return process was the only part of my experience that was reminiscent of the Klein of the old days. Four stars for this part. Upon opening the box, I found a new device in the same retail packaging with no accompanying explanation or paperwork other than the packing list. I can only hope that the packing list will serve as a receipt should this unit require a warranty claim. I guess the old adage is "you get what you pay for". true in this case, but this will be my last purchase of anything other than hand tools from Klein. YMMV.
