They emit a wide, fan-shaped beam of light that perfectly illuminates the area directly in front of the car and the roadside. Even when using standard 55W incandescent bulbs, they glow bright yellow. They might seem a little big for some cars, but they look right at home on my fairly straight forward Volvo. I see pedestrians and other roadside hazards. Their color also helps reduce flashback from the amount of snow that has fallen in central Massachusetts this year. Even with HELLA Clear Stone Shield screen protectors for 550 series lamps, they still break. I'm a conscientious driver and have never hit anything, but both bulbs have stress cracks. These tags are installed under my bumper. Not sure how or why this happened. The two light bulb sockets also do not fulfill their purpose. They are carelessly processed and do not snap. The metal is also unsuitable for the task, not properly grounding the lamps and being badly oxidized. Both ground wires are grounded to the metal bumper, which is also grounded to the vehicle body. I expected a lot more from Hella. I think now I have to search for the Cibié brand. Also, I think I would have preferred the more classic amber/gold colored lamps of "back then" to these lighter, more "lemon yellow" colors. Unfortunately, the EPA doesn't want us to continue using cadmium to color glass for long.
