Overall pretty easy to install. Just take your time going through the instructions and you will get there. It took a few tools. For me it was a 10mm socket wrench, 1 allen wrench, cable tie cutter and a knife. Some things you may want to know if you own a 2005 Tacoma Double Cab, 4x4 (or equivalent). Running short wires (to power the lock) through the tailgate drain holes probably won't work. Not for me. To do this I had to remove the plastic cover from the pins (still stuck). Next, try not to route the cables into the cabin from the driver's side. Too many obstacles. Using the passenger side is much, much easier. My choice of wiring was on the tailgate: blue -> blue; and green -> green. In the cockpit it was blue -> blue and green -> blue with a pink stripe. It worked the first time. In general, I was in no hurry, so I could slowly work step by step. Works well and I like that it has a separate key (I didn't see a need to spend an extra $50-$100 for a model that works with your stock ignition key).
