I have 12" x 12" marble slabs in my shower. I needed many different sized rosettes around the door and many details needed two rounded edges. The local tile shop asked for $10 per edge, which equated to $20 per tile. I had about 50 edges to round off, so I decided to try it myself. I wanted to use one of my angle grinders but didn't realize they all run at fixed speeds in excess of 10,000 rpm. This cutter offers 3500-4000 rpm. So I bought an adapter from Damo "Adapter Bits / 5/8"-11 to 3/8" shank / for electric hand drills. My Dewalt drill runs at 2500 rpm. I set up a bracket to hold the holding tiles and pumping water over the surface and started making the rough cuts. After rounding the edges with this tool they became rough. I sanded them with my random orbit sander starting with 80 grit, then 120, 220 and 320 grit and then finished with 600 grit, my tiles have a 'buffed' finish, not a 'polished' finish, if they were buffed I would have to do an even finer grit pass or two, if I did this again I would too Take diamond sanding pads. I think they last a lot longer than pads for sanding wood. I spent about $150 on a cutter, adapter and sandpaper plus a few hours of work. But I also got my design on d Modified in a way and was able to make the appropriate decorative details over time.
