Half Gallon (2 L) Square Profile White Glazed Ceramic Fermentation Dish, Sealing Groove in Lid, Weight

People have been fermenting sauerkraut for centuries and I love cabbage so I have decided to try it. It's a little less than I expected even though it's 2 litres/half gallons. It is impossible to store a full large head of chopped cabbage. Ceramic is a little flimsy and less durable than we'd like. I didn't like that the square hole barely allows me to put my hand through and my hands aren't huge. (last picture). The seller does not enclose any instructions for use or care. There are many web resources available for home fermentation, but it would be nice to see the basic information. It has the necessary watertight groove on the jug lid to prevent ingress of oxygen and outside contaminants. , gases are produced which may be a little smelly when it starts bubbling. The water seal groove retains some water and allows gases to escape during fermentation. Rectangular weights are placed on top of the cabbage to keep it submerged. They are awkward to get in and out of. I put them in the lid for a moment and it took me a hell of a long time to get them out (that's not where they're supposed to be). (0.5 gallon) sealed jar with lid and glazed weights - for fermenting sauerkraut, kimchi, and pickles (white). It's a bit flimsy and small, awkward to fit in, and a round jug has advantages over that. However, it will ferment my cabbage properly. I hope you found the information and my review helpful.
