Effective tool: thread repair kit

Good tool as advertised, for re-threading a carburetor. The cutting tool was great. The springs sit well in the thread. It would be nice if the streams were different sizes. I cut one out with a dremel but flattening is not a problem. Excellent value for the money. It would be nice to have an attachment that makes it easier to use a T-handled cutting tool. It is very nice that the correct drill bit is included in the kit.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks

Worked great on a mirror mount

Worked great on a motorcycle aluminum mirror mount repair. I've seen a few people struggle and wondered about using the exhaust oil and wiggling around a bit while removing the faucet for the occasional cleaning. Tapping oil SHOULD be used when cutting, drilling and tapping metal. Granted, I don't always follow my own advice, but when I'm working on important things, I do.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Nothing here

The only thread repair kit I've ever struggled with

I've installed many thread inserts in this style but never really paid much attention to them as it's a fairly simple process. The metallurgy is wrong everywhere on this kit, the inserts are too springy so the thread snaps when installed. The supplied hex key for adjusting the depth stop on the tool does not fit the set screw. The setup tool is too boring, using it is hurting the business. Six tries later I have a "working" thread that works but slowly eats the screw away with each install. Soโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Tap needs more input

I've installed many spiral coils over the years and these are far from the worst. At the same time, the crane really needs a longer rope. My photo shows it (right) versus a standard plug faucet (left). The included tap is a semi-low tap and is very difficult to drive into a hole, even with the right wrench, thread oil and lots of threading experience. This made the faucet wobble, enlarging the hole. The finished product felt "soft" compared to the unpeeled holes when tightened to just 43 ft-lb,

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • New competitors are here
