I bought these to hold a tarp on my RV. It slipped when I threaded the bungee cord through the holes and pulled on it. That might be fine under certain circumstances, but not for keeping a tarp out in the winter.

Don't buy these clips with a slip/clip feature where you pull the strap down and it snaps into ratchet stages. The plastic will soften over time and they just stop locking in place. Capture the view with the bolt tensioner.

holds tight. Very easy to open --- in fact if you accidentally hit the release mechanism it will fall off. It's a little difficult to open the jaws wide enough to pull multiple layers together. I've used it to build a tarp to hold the comforter underneath and as clothespins to hold comforters on a coiled line.

They work very well at grappling. Consistency from one clip to the next wasn't very good as I found that some of them didn't cut as well as others. Because of this, I didn't use about 1 out of 5. For my application, they had to last at least a week and not come loose in the wind. For occasional use during the day, none of this would be a problem.

Bought these and CargoLoc 82471 4 tarp clips. CargoLoc was better although they get the job done. The CargoLoc is easier to tighten with a screw and the hole is larger for threading the rope. My husband had to put them on because I didn't have the strength to pull them on tight enough to hold them. They keep the door closed in the 20'HX 50'L Shelter because the wind blew the lightning away. Despite installation problems, they have held up for 2 months in a windy winter.

It is quite difficult to get the clips to cling to the vinyl sheet. I use clips for what I consider a heavy-duty tarp that I bought from Costco. The only way to get them to hook was to insert a small screw under the clip to cut into the tarp material. I tried to reuse some clamps that weren't used last year due to bad weather. These clips turned out to be even better than the more expensive ones. The clip looks like it's made of stronger plastic and the locking mechanism is easier to work with.
