This drive was DOA, should have been dead when shipped, so I picture the recovery process as taking it out of the dead machine and wiping it down with an alcohol-soaked cloth to remove the dust and bag and send it. I suggest to test it as soon as you receive it to return it immediately (actually I suggest not to buy it).

An upgrade for an older laptop that needed more memory. formatted for Windows 7 and some large files that didn't fit on the smaller hard drive in the computer.

I use Acronis True Image for cloning. It is recommended to insert the new drive into the laptop first and connect the old drive via USB. Otherwise, you will not be able to boot from the newly cloned disk because Acronis True Image will apply the boot fix to the new disk and configure the target
