As a ladder rack I would probably give it 5 stars. To carry more than one kayak, not too many. The included kayak J-hooks do not properly fit the large diameter steel tubing of this rack. I had to buy new screws to fix this but they are still very unstable and easy to move by hand. The steel tubes on the X25 model of this frame might be a better buy if you are looking for a kayak frame and maybe that's what J was made for, they definitely weren't made for this frame and are utterly useless. It's heavy, but that's to be expected since it's made of steel. A small aluminum frame costs a lot more money. I bought this rack to carry 3 kayaks and it works very well (after purchasing the optional J-Racks kit for the 3rd kayak). Buckling them all up is a bit fiddly, but better than buying a really expensive roof rack. Supplied with enough C-Clamps to use 2 on each side of each bar for extra stability.
