Nothing for big bikes, best in sport

Wanted. But the spindle isn't long enough to accommodate the tallest vintage bikes. I have a 68cm frame and it wouldn't even come close. Haven't tried it on my '64 but that might give a boost too. Would be a brilliant economical option if the spindle was longer.

Pros
  • , nice thing
Cons
  • , modernity

A good economical tool

In general, a necessary and good tool. Not the best in the business, but if you're looking for an economical press, this is more than enough. I would definitely buy again. I also bought what I call a PT cup ejector rod and the cup bearing washers work great in combination with this tool for 24mm holes.

Pros
  • GOLS certificate
Cons
  • A few little things

Economical, works well

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of this press. Hopefully this will only be needed once or twice a year so I didn't want to waste $200 on one. This is a quality tool for the DIY enthusiast. You can imagine that this might not be enough for heavy use in a workshop environment, but is more than enough for a typical home mechanic.

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Upgrade availability

Not for Cone Headset

If it worked with the Cone Headset I would give it 5 stars. As you can see in my video it doesn't work with a conical headset because the bottom of the headset is larger than the bottom of the instrument. If you press on it, you can damage the bearings on the bottom. But with other headsets it works 100%. If you add the most to the toolbox, this is the best tool. This works great for the bottom bracket. Only one downside.

Surprisingly good

So you need to mount the headset without damaging the frame. At one end of the price spectrum you have the top-of-the-line Park Tool headset press for around $170, at the other end a rubber mallet for $5 (not recommended). This press actually does a pretty good job for about $30 with the following caveats: 1) You take your time and SLOWLY apply force to make sure the press stays properly centered. 2). Make sure you have a good quality long box wrench (24mm I think) to tighten the bottom bolt…

Presses well - bit weird

This tool works for Bb30. But it is not easy to use and requires installation to fully set the bearings. Here's how it works: Only press one bearing at a time. Install new bearing by hand. Use the press properly and make sure it is well centered over the bike crankcase on both sides. - it's not easy - a lot of play and you pull up the press at the same time. Dismantle the press and reinstall the old bearing behind the new bearing. Now you can sink the bearing into the housing as intended. The…

Fantastic quality but drift just presses the bearings flush

After a few years working in a bike shop this is a really good quality tool. My complaint is that it just pushed my BB30 bearings against the bottom bracket shell. I spent quite a bit of time contemplating what other mandrels I could order to fit the bearings into the inner clamps (proper bearing positioning is recessed rather than flush) and finally decided to do it with a plastic spacer/one washer to try to get them flush. against internal clamps. It worked but required extra care to keep it…

Totally wrong size for a BB30 bottom bracket

Luckily I had a 3D printer. The supplied die sets have an inner diameter of 28 mm and an outer diameter of 50 mm with a depth of 9 mm. Some/most BB30 bearings have a 2.5-3mm insert, meaning the outer 50mm will not allow the bearing to be fully pressed in. I made a 3D printed adapter for 29.9mm (to provide some offset but actually center the bearing, if not you have up to 2mm of possible side loading and offset. Also I have a 41 OD, Made 9mm and made it higher to let it push and insert the…
