I've always used Alfa Never again for AC

The device itself is fine The software that controls the IT isn't it? Man is GOD TERRIBLE! It's incredibly awful. "Realtek 11n Wireless LAN USB Utility" Version 700.1685.1211.2014 is the only thing I can find to run this and that. Is. GARBAGE! Switching networks ALWAYS takes time if it ever happens, sometimes it doesn't connect at all so I have to disconnect and then reconnect the device. Sometimes it doesn't even work, so I have to turn on "Disable Adapter", wait a while, then turn it off to…

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Not fancy

The first device I got was DOA. I installed drivers and software, plugged it in and nothing. I know electronics sometimes fail, so I returned it and ordered another one. This one works, but if you wiggle it while it's plugged in, it will lose connection. The included dongle makes no sense since it's USB 2.0 and the wireless adapter itself is USB 3.0. So you'll need a USB 3.0 cable, if you use the one that comes with it you'll only have 300MB. I made a higher site adapter out of a 3.0 cable and…

Works great, except for disconnection.

I hesitated to give this product 4 or 2 stars. I agreed to give it a 3 for the following reason: This wireless USB adapter works great (4 stars). Until the connection is lost (2 stars). What happens every 2-3 hours. In 95% of cases, a simple reboot by disconnecting/connecting USB solves the network disconnection issue. The remaining 5% requires a full reboot of the laptop. That doesn't mean I'm at the limit. My laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad) connects to the network without any problems. I just…

I am very happy with the speed of my connection

I wanted to extend my internet connection from home to shopping. My shop is 100% metal and is about 400 feet from my home. At home I have an Asus AC87U dual band router. Standing in front of my storefront, I can log into my two Asus networks (both = 2.4 and 5 GB lanes) from my iPhone. In my shop, next to the same window, I have no cell service at all with either my iPhone or my old Windows 7 PC, downloaded the drivers and installed the AC1200 wireless adapter, placing it as close to the window…

  • Easy to use

  • Quick start guide

Ideal for almost 2 years of daily use.

I built my desktop PC a few years ago, before Wi-Fi became the standard MOBO add-on. After moving my computer to another room without an ethernet cable, I bought this device. For two years (11 months to be precise) it worked perfectly. During that time, it detected and connected my WiFi at the expected speed available on my network. I've often watched Netflix or YouTube in one window and browsed 20-80 tabs in another. (Yes, those #s are correct. I'm an artist.) Now, for the past two weeks, his…

The product did not pass the quality check

The delivery and packaging of the product was very good. Installation was easy, I installed the latest (old) drivers and then plugged them in. I tried the docking station first and then plugged it into the machine on port 3.0, but got the same notification that it would run much faster if I plugged it in. on port 3.0. However, I don't think it mattered much. The first moment I realized something was wrong was the flash video freezing, which was a constant/repetitive behavior on this device…

Excellent except for instructions

Just received yesterday. I ordered it because I'm changing internet provider and the new router is on the other side of the house. I have a desk designed for a tower, so my computer is low and surrounded by wood. My new service is 100MB, but I got 10-12MB on my PC over 2.4GHz band and the network card (NIC) on my PC didn't support 5.0GHz band. He was done in a few seconds. The instructions, which are crap, require you to uninstall your existing Wi-Fi drivers. I just disabled my network card (I…

Pros
  • Supported standards: 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11N, 802.11ac
Cons
  • Security

EDIT: After a few months of running as below, it deteriorated. It will now run from a few minutes to a few hours before shutting down. I've tried different drivers, wattage controls, and other settings, but it's never worked reliably. Granted, AC1200 adapters are problematic. I have an AC450 adapter that has never dropped the connection. I have a third AC1200 adapter. Alpha was my second. My current adapter works better than the Alfa when it's at its best, but it's not as reliable as the AC450.

Pros
  • Wireless Security: WEP 64-bit, WEP 128-bit, WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK
