I was a bit reluctant to buy this but I'm glad I did! It works really well, one tank of mine had algae issues and no matter how much I cleaned or whatever I tried it didn't help. My water would still have a green tint and the algae would still be there. I have used this rug and it has worked amazingly. I needed a smaller algae pad with no handle to clean a small aquarium with some mountain guppies. I know the instructions say it's for glass only - but ok I'll admit it - the bowl I use to clean it is plastic and I haven't had any issues so far. What's especially nice is that the small size makes it easy to clean inside edges, where algae tends to be stubborn and difficult to remove. This little pad was just what we needed to clean our 2 gallon bowl.

This pad will not scratch plastic on cook top filters or aquarium glass which is a great thing. I wish it was a little more aggressive because even with some serious elbow grease it does a mediocre job. I've found it stays clean if I use it once a week, but if you want to remove stubborn algae stains, an old credit card works best.
