Trusted brand for my surveillance projects

This is my fourth Amcrest NVR. (home, work and family). I am using this with (4) Amcrest UltraHD 4K (8MP) outdoor Bullet POE IP cameras and a 4TB Seagate Skyhawk hard drive. I plan to add a few more cameras and more storage soon. The NVR supports two hard drives, which I plan to use after adding more cameras. To add cameras, just plug them in, let them boot up and the NVR will find them automatically. When all cameras are connected, you have many options in the NVR menu. I use the 24 hour…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Out of style

Existing reviews have clearly shown that the two disadvantages are that it is not very "user friendly" and has noisy fans. But those comments also describe much of the competition. The "handy" part goes away over time, but the fan issue remains. There are several videos on YouTube describing how to swap out fans, but the truth is that the noise is mostly due to airflow in these small cases. Recently, Reolink stopped using fans and I think other manufacturers will follow suit soon. Unless you're

present I had no problems installing a 1TB hard drive. It took me a few days to try different settings, but the device works great. What I like is that you can use Firefox and other browsers to access the device's GUI and change some settings or view live video from the cameras as well as play the recorded video from the camera. It should be noted that all system settings are not visible or accessible when accessed from a browser, but are visible when logging in from the device itself. I want…

Buy this NVR!: Security and Surveillance

This is a very good NVR, I would recommend it to everyone in the market. Pros: Easy to install Amcrest cameras work perfectly with this DVR. Hard drives (not included) are also easy to install. It can accommodate 2 hard drives, so you don't have to worry about running out of storage space. The physical buttons on the front are easy to use and convenient for quick operation. The box includes everything you need to set it up (even a mouse!). The USB 3.0 port is much faster than the 2.0 port you…

Doesn't work, created a support ticket. - updated with replacement

Let's see if we can solve this problem. Just today NV5208E arrived. The box appears to be in perfect condition. HDMI, network, mouse. When powered on, the device and system will not boot past the logo screen. Sometimes it squeaks. (Beep code table not found) Front power button not working. Cold cycle only from the power supply. Tried it with a solid state drive. No download changes. The system seems to reset every few minutes and sometimes the mouse LED lights up, which means it's moved a bit…

Nice upgrade for their already good NVRs

This 4K NVR system is a great upgrade (or even better for a first time purchase). There are 8 powered PoE ports for connecting IP cameras directly. The NVR is future-proof as it supports cameras with video resolution up to 12MP, which is better than 4K. As you can see from the attached video, the dash cam makes noise. Two fans, one sucks in cold air, the second blows out hot air. The entrance is at the back and the exit is on the left. This provides good airflow to cool the system. The noise…

Works BUT Instructions are lousy or missing

This NVR works, I have 4 Amcrest POE cameras and they are all connected to the NVR. NVR records 4 cameras. BUT. There are many undocumented features, functions and fields on the screens that are not described in the manual or online blogs. I find the lack of accurate documentation regarding the current version of the NVR software incredibly annoying. I'm not the type to call tech support for every question I have. I'd rather research the issue in a document than waste time waiting for a tech…

Cons
  • Piggy bank price

I'm not sure how much I'm in love with the latest version I found with this DVR. I would like to know that if I use the POE ports on the back of the NVR, my cameras on the NVR will be completely isolated from other cameras. What I mean is that now I need to add the NVR to the app to see the cameras instead of just adding the cameras. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and it's worth trying again. I understand this is a good thing to keep the bad guys out, but I'm not sure how much I like the fact…
