Very poorly made but good material. The part that holds everything together on the handle only has two small sheet metal punches to hold the handle in place. This is very inappropriate. So you have to beat yourself and do four more. If they could punch a few more holes in the changes they care about about their product, it wouldn't take that long.

I didn't buy them to crush ice. I bought them to dig holes in the garden. So I'm assuming that applying a downward force to break the ice is what holds the product together? But in my application the base was pulling on the shaft causing it to separate from the handle!? I know my application is not what they were intended for, but I was just expecting a better product.

I would like to point out that I knew I would not get a quality product at this price; However, they are mediocre at best. The wooden handles are untreated, which allows for the possibility of splitting. At the ends of the wooden handles, the metal dowels are not attached to the wood. The metal is pressed into the wood for a loose fit. The metal shaft itself works as intended; However, I find I'd rather have one quality ice ax than three inferior ones.

Bullshit! These are disposable items. Maybe they're good for a beach party or a camping trip where storage isn't a priority. All 3 of my ice axes were packed, I was the first user so there were no problems. My problem is the quality. The caps of all three ice axes were loose.
