Description of 🔧 ARES 70004 Precision Oiler Pen: Accurate Lubrication in Tight Spots with CLP, Ballistol, and More

SPECIFICATIONS: Our precision oiler pen is constructed of machined aluminum with a 15ml reservoir. A protective screw on cover prevents leaks and replaceable O-Rings (#7 cap and #6 needle) provide a tight seal on your lubricant. The convenient pocket clip lets you take it anywhere!. HOW IT WORKS: When you push the button, a tapered brass plug in the tip of the needle extends outward, and oil is able to flow past. Releasing the button immediately stops the oil flow. Unscrew the top every ten drops or so to enable the oil to continue flowing freely through it. COMMON USES: This precision oiler pen is perfect for cleaning and lubing firearms (Ballistol, Break Fee CLP, Hoppes Gun Oil and Weaponshield), brake pedal pivots, foot speed controls pivot points, door hinges, sewing machines, bike derailers, knife hinges, penetrating oils (Mouse Milk), spinner wheels, pianos, and more!. RELIABLE | EFFECTIVE | EFFICIENT: Users trust ARES to be quality tools. You are backed by our Performance Assurance Limited Lifetime Warranty. If you have any issues with your ARES Precision Oiler Pen Applicator, simply contact customer service for troubleshooting help, parts, replacement, or refund. Unfortunately, it leaks around the button.

Looks well built and works great. When I received mine, it had a small burr on the threads for the needle tip cap that would have caused small cuts on the o-ring, leading to premature wear. Remove the burr with a small file. Filled with WD-40 and pressed the top button. Releases a tiny drop of oil, just right for a sealed bearing/sleeve or a dirty potentiometer. Edit: less than an hour after pouring when flow started around the button. It's a shame it can be a fantastic tool but if it needs to…

Has potential, misses the target

A precision oiler that claims to dispense Ballistol should be able to do just that. Not this little donor. The o-ring on the button cover failed within 12 hours. Not that I abused it and overtightened the lid. It appears to be swollen from contact with Ballistol. In this case, it's a cheap o-ring and a poor choice for Ares. The lubricating mechanism is simple and doesn't leak, but since the lubricator isn't vented, it just doesn't work well. I had high hopes and didn't expect the oil dispenser…

THIN OIL LEAKAGE. THE SALESMAN SAYS BUY A MORE OIL.

Works as it should, but LEAKS. If you have oil that is even considered relatively liquid, it's a MONEY LOSS. I bought it to use Starrett Precision Tool Oil (which is a really REGULAR oil used in my area) and it's leaking right under the butt. the side of the button where the tank is. I contacted the seller and they told me "BUY OIL THICKER". I use this fairly medium-weight oil to lubricate my precision instruments because it's proven and won't stick to mechanical parts. Haven't received a…

It is not a precision oiler and leaks!

UPDATE: Since writing this review, I have noticed that when the oiler is standing upright in my toolbox, it has poured its entire contents onto the felt liner twice. I can't figure out why this is happening as there are o-rings that are supposed to seal it. But here it is. I would avoid it. This oiler is well built and the concept is excellent. It provides too much lubrication to be called "accurate" in my opinion. I have oilers that are just a plastic tube that you squeeze and that delivers a…

Solidly built. DOES NOT LEAK. Use good quality THICK oil

This thing is well made from solid aluminum. It's compact but not small and accurate enough to lubricate knife axles. I use the Super Lube brand. I highly recommend it. It is a viscous pure silicone oil. Despite some other reviews, the oiler does not leak anywhere. I use it every day. Because my oil is thick, I have to press the pen button multiple times to release a full drop of oil. This gives me the ability to apply a small amount of oil to a specific spot. I only have to press the button…

Works as advertised but has hidden bugs depending on your use case

It works as advertised. However, there are a few downsides. The way this pen works is that when you press down on the top, a metal rod comes out of the "writing" end of the pen. When this happens, the oil stored in the reservoir falls out by gravity. All is well until you want to smear a spot where the end of the letter is higher than the end of the "clicker". Then the oil won't come out because gravity is working against you. Contrary to what you might think, this is not a syringe and no oil…

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • Good but not great

Good semi-precision applicator, but it leaks.

Great little oiler if you are working within its limits. Although not very visible in the photos, it is the pointed shaft in the center of the needle that serves to seal flow through the needle in the closed position and as the actual applicator tip when the button is pressed. This is a gravity fed device so you have to use fairly thin oil and it doesn't work upside down or even across. It is only a drop and not injectable. So if you want to displace oil or apply to areas that need lubrication,

Pros
  • Good product for the price

  • No performance

If you have a firearm this is a must have, they will thank you!

I love this tool! It is very well done and Precision describes it perfectly! As an avid marksman, I am involved in cleaning firearms. What used to be a small collection that could be cleared quickly has grown into an entire weekend event. This Oiler Pen was exactly what I was looking for! I've used cotton swabs, syringe applicators, and all other snake oil products for decades. This pen puts ONE drop where you need it! It gets into small spaces like your rails, glock connectors, springs and…
