Don't pay for modem rental, save your money

In my area, TimeWarner is now charging $6 a month to rent a modem from them. It costs $72 a year. The only benefit you get from this is that you don't have to pay for a new modem if yours dies. You can buy this modem once a year and still not pay as much as the rent. It's very easy to set up, anyone can do it. When you receive this modem, look for the MAC number on the box or on the modem. It has a sticker with different numbers on it. That's all you need to set up. Call your cable provider or…

Perfect performance saved me a fortune on my cable bill

Over the past few years, Comcast has slowly increased the price of 'rented' modems. It went from $1 a month to $7. At least the last time I had a modem card was about two years ago. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that math doesn't add up. If they charge $7 a month, you pay $84 a year just for RENT! Like many others I was looking for a cable modem as Comcast recently increased rent. So it was either this SB5101U or SB5101. I think the only difference between the two models is that the SB5101U doesn't have a sleep button that allows you to turn off internet access. I'm not sure what the wait button means. It looks like your internet will go down if you accidentally hit it, and you could spend 30 minutes on hold with Comcast before you finally realize it! If I want to turn off Internet…

Cheap and reliable modem

Pros-1. Easy Installation and Setup Installing this modem is very easy. You plug it into a power source and connect an ethernet cable to your computer and a coax cable from your ISP. It shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes. Then you need to call your ISP and they will ask you for the serial number of the device. Once you deploy it, they do the rest for you. In my case it was a no-brainer. I got up and ran for 10 minutes. No particular problems encountered.2. Maintains a Reliable Connection…
